Explained: Quick Read: One UI 8.5 provides enhanced fingerprint recognition

Though Samsung is yet to roll out One UI 8.5 (Android 16 QPR2) to many Galaxy devices, new features, as regards the One UI 8.5, are still coming out.

The One UI 8.5 brings a new feature: the fingerprint unlocking option, known as ‘Improve accuracy.’ It rescans your fingerprint to enhance the recognition accuracy. It results in more reliable and faster fingerprint recognition. Thus, it reduces device unlock times and speeds up fingerprint authentication across the system (including in third-party apps).

To access this option, go to Settings > Security and privacy > Screen lock and biometrics > Fingerprints. Then, tap any of the registered fingerprints and select Improve accuracy. Once that is done, the phone scans your fingerprint within ten minutes to enhance the recognition accuracy.

It seems the feature is going to be available only in the stable version of the One UI 8.5. That being the case, the ‘Improve accuracy’ option will be available only for the Galaxy S26 series.

It’s expected that Samsung will begin rolling out One UI 8.5 to eligible devices in a few weeks. This means that before long, the feature will reach more devices.
